Osmice – A Culinary tradition of the Primorska Region

The osmice tradition dates back to the 18th century, when farmers were granted permission to sell their homemade wine and food for eight days a year — hence the name osmice (“eights”).

Today, osmice remain extremely popular. Visitors can enjoy homemade wine, prosciutto, salami, cheese, štruklji (rolled dumplings), and other local specialties in simple wine cellars, farm courtyards, or rustic barns. It is an authentic experience of local life — a true celebration of community, hospitality, and the comforting aromas of home-cooked food.
