TripsIf you enjoy trips and outings, we will gladly help you choose the perfect one for you.The town of Nova Gorica with its diverse surroundings, where plains and river banks are embraced by hills and mountains, offers interesting tours, natural and cultural heritage, possibilities for recreation and entertainment, and fabulous food. Nova Gorica is enriched by the Kostanjevica Monastery with its library and the tombs of the last descendants of the Royal Family of the Bourbons. The Europe Square at the ex border with Italy and right next to the railway station is a kind of symbol of the two Gorica/Gorizia twin towns. It is also the venue of cultural, entertainment and political events and meetings. All visitors who wish to experience closer this area’s past, can visit the museum collections of the Goriška Museum: Kromberk Castle, Kolodvor, and Vila Bartolomei. If you are looking for some excitement, you can seize your good fortune in one of the Nova Gorica casinos. On a mountain rising above town lie the Sveta Gora (Holy Mountain) sanctuary and the ancient pilgrimage path leading to it. The emerald Soča River meanders just below it and the Solkan Bridge spans above the river. It is the world’s longest stone railed bridge. On the other river bank rises Mt. Sabotin with its Park of Peace dedicated to the battles at the Isonzo Front during the Great War. The Trnovo and Banjšice Plain attract with their original character, the beautiful unspoilt nature and remote paths. In the heart of the Trnovo Forest lies a cosy little village called Lokve, which is the ideal starting point to visit natural attractions, for hiking, and trips. Not distant from Lokve lies another interesting village called Lokovec, which is famous for its blacksmith tradition. Today you can visit the Blacksmith Museum in Lokovec. There is also a long tradition of gathering and processing herbs. This tradition is preserved in the Herbal Centre in Grgarske Ravne. A series of natural products are a witness of the fact that here nature is still pristine. Cheese, honey, fruit and other nature’s treats are but some of them. In the cosy villages of the lower Vipava Valley the locals preserve a rich tradition of winegrowing and winemaking. The blend of Mediterranean and continental climate is also felt in the local wine flavour, which is both gentle and firm. Besides plenty of sunshine they reflect sweat, knowledge, and the enormous passion of Vipava Valley farmers. The valley is famous for its autochthonous wine varieties: zelen, pinela, malvazija, and rebula. It is also well-known for its typical cuisine, which combines Karstian, Brda, Vipava, Friulian, and Italian characteristics. The typical and most popular Vipava dishes are cottage cheese-based pastry, bleki (homemade noodles) with prosciutto and cream, Vipava prosciutto, dried rib roast, jota, polenta, cracklings, cheese, boiled struklji, and delicious homemade bread. In winter they add Goriški radicchio to the menu, which they have been growing since the second half of the 19th century. The soil and the climate here have been ideal to grow juicy fruit and other products of mother nature: peaches, khaki, figs, apples, cherries, olives, chestnut, etc. At our reception desk, we offer information on trips to the historic sites and natural attractions of the surrounding area: - Nova Gorica (Kostanjevica Monastery, Kromberk Castle, Sabotin – Peace Park, Sveta Gora with the Basilica...)
